Is there a way to get codes without a scanner? Ie. jumping wires to get engine light to blink codes?

let me ask you this, why would you want to do that, when you can have it scanned for free, at autozone or your local parts place?

Being that the car wont start and the nearest Autozone is 12 miles away and the nearest car parts store is about 3 miles in heavy traffic I didn't think pushing it would be a good idea.
