How long does it take to change the heater core?

1996 Oldsmobile Aurora

I was wondering how long it takes and what is needed to do the job? Aswell as how can you tell if the head was comprimised from being over heated?

to thoroughly check the cylinder head for damage, it would have to be removed and magnafluxed to check for any cracks that will not be visible by the human eye. the shop will also check warpage of the head as well.
