If it overheats that fast, (can't get down driveway), either there is no coolant circulating or the gauge is wrong. Have you checked the actual coolant temp when the gauge says hot? They make a thermometer for checking coolant in the radiator. Start with a cold engine, remove the rad cap, place the thermometer in the coolant and start the car. The thermostat should fully open at 195 degrees F. Compare the gauge in the car with the thermometer to see if they are both the same. If they are not, you may have a bad temperature sending unit.
