The head is leaking coolant externally and into the oil. My local mechanic says it is a fairly common problem with this vehicle type and has to do with the difference in expansion rates between the block and aluminum head. Short of getting a new motor, what are my options? Thanks in advance.

Do a head gasket job.

How long has this been going on?

Don't rule out a possible intake gasket. I would suggest confirming this is a bad headgasket.

If this is fairly fresh, just replace the head gaskets if that's the problem. Get the heads shaved too.
