This problem started about a week ago. When you step on the gas the rpms will go up but the car doesnt speed up. You really have to slam on the gas to get it over thirty at a reasonable time, but I still get honked at alot. Getting over 45 can take awhile and sometimes it wont even go over 50 and the rpms will be close to red, so I have to let off the gas and then step on it again till it will speed up without blowing the engine up. The weird thing is when the engine is cold it will accelerate fine. I mean really cold, like winter morning cold. I am hoping this is a problem I can fix myself, for I do not have the money to mess around with a shop. Please help.

Hi jcwendler,

Thank you for the donation.

Symptoms indicates either the transmisison is not upshifting or is slipping.

Check the trans fluid level and condition. It could be due to low fluid level or clogged trans fluid strainer.

Do you have any indicator lights showing while driving?

Thanks for the reply,
I got my transmission serviced and it didn't seem to do anything. The car is still very slow to accelerate and it can hardly make it up hills. It's almost like my gas pedal doesn't work, you press on it and it doesn't do anything. Even when its on the floor you can hear the engine working the rpms up but no power at all. When i get on the freeway it takes a couple miles to get to 65 and the whole time i have to switch from pushing and letting off the gas till something finally catches and it will slowly speed up. Maybe my transmission is done for. If you have any other options please let me know. As for indicator lights the servise engine soon light will come on every nowand then but it doesn't stay on. with the window down you can hear a high pitch like a whistle when I accelerate, hope this helps.

Get a free scan done at Autozone and let me know the exact trouble code so I can understand why the SES is indicating. It coudl shed a light on why the trnsmission is acting the way it is.

The high pitched noise could be a fault with the torque converter.
