2001 Oldsmobile Alero body control module

I was told by gm dealer the body control module was bad and my question is can I buy a used module to replace it or does it need to be a new one

Actually you can only buy a new one because once a bcm is programmed to that vehicle it becomes locked, what that means is the bcm can only be programmed 1 time to the vehicle it's in, if you try and reprogramm it, it will not accept a 2nd programm. These older style bcm's are designed like this. Post back with any other questions.
