Engine Mechanical problem
2000 Oldsmobile Alero 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

I have a 2000 alero and it is leaking coolant and water into the oil. From reading other posts I believe that it is the intake gaskets. I was wondering if someone could tell me if they are difficult to change. My boyfriend is going to do the work but is not sure how to do it or how much work it is. If someone could let me know that would be great because this is my only means of transportation.

It could be an intake gasket or a headgasket. To be sure, you'll need to perform a compression test to see if the compression is low in one or more cylenders. If it is, then chances are there is a headgasket leaking.

Both jobs are involved. I strongly recommend getting a good repair manual that has step by step instructions and pictures to identify parts.

Let me know if you have other questions.
