The transmission seems to be holding back & when it changes gears, it shoots off into the next gear (literally jerking your head). It will shift if you let off the gas, but hesitates. There is no dipstick, only a plug (it's Oldsmobile FWD). We're not sure how to check it, but we stuck our "pinky" in there & didn't detect any fluid. We added some but are afraid to overfill it & wonder why it was so low anyway; we have no stains-driveway nor on transmission pan. What should I check or do? Any help is greatly appreciated.

There should Be a screw on the the bottom left or right and you can check the fluid by removing the screw if fluid comes out then its ok what probely needs to be done is the fluid needs to be changed remember once a year change trans fluid or it could ruin you trans.
