Like it says above. I have a 1999 olds alero. It has the 2.4l DOHC engine. Recently i started hearing a knocking/pinging noise from the engine. It gets pretty bad when the RPMs get up to about 2500-3000, that's when it usually shifts. Is there anything cheap i can start off with to try to fix it before i start tearing apart the engine?

Thanks for your time.

well first, I would be sure the oil is topped off, then add some kind of oil thickener or conditioner, like lucas or cd2 i think it is, see how it goes. there is not much you can do. i'm thinking a push rod or possibly rocker arms. hopefully its not bearings.
