1999 Oldsmobile Alero Can not get out of park

1999 Oldsmobile Alero 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive 140000 miles

I have an alero 2.4 twin cam that has not been running and has sat for 3 years. I have been able to get it out of park since it stopped running. But now it won't shift out of park. I was thinking that something is sticking since it has been sitting. I was wondering what it was and what I can do to get it out of park.

Check for sticking/binding linkage if none -do below

Check the brake light if its working if not test it if okay -Have the shift interlock control switch
