Air Conditioning problem
1996 Oldsmobile 98 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

The a/c blows only cool-ish air. I had a new resistor and blower motor put in and the refrigerant has been recharged although the technician said there could be a leak. He said he could see nothing else.

My concern is the blower motor I put in. Could I have bought an inferior motor that does not do the best job, or worse a blower motor that is not a/c capable?

Hi brett2458. Welcome to the forum. The blower has nothing to do with the temperature of the air, only the speed at which the air comes out. Insufficient cooling is usually a sign of low charge. A leak is a definite possibility, especially since it was recently recharged. A leak check should have been performed at that time. You can check for leaks in rubber hoses and connections yourself by applying a mixture of water and liquid dish soap. The compressor's front seal, the evaporator, and the condenser should also be suspect but you will need an electronic leak detector to find them.

Other signs of low charge include a compressor that runs for just a few seconds, then cycles off for an unusually long time, and a compressor that runs for an unusually long time and is unable to build enough pressure to cycle off.
