Noises problem
1991 Oldsmobile 98 Automatic

Car is making a metallic clang noise. seems to be coming from the right side of the engine where the belt is. also is shaking while running but starts to go away when accelerating. also is not accelerating as fast as it used to. any ideas?

Okay:
This may take a couple test to identify. Because the the drop in performance, check the catalytic converter to make sure it isn't loose inside and ratteling and cauising a power loss. Just tap on the exhaust with a rubber mallot.

If that is good, remove the serp belt and start the engine to see if the sound is gone. NOTE: Only run the engine a few seconds so it doesn't over heat.

If the sound is gone, check each accessory to determine which is causing the noise.
