1997 Oldsmobile 88

My car will go into every gear but reverse. When I put it in reverse it just kind of growls when I give it gas. But when I put it into drive it will go forward and not make that sound.

sounds like the reverse clutch is out and needs to be replaced. call your local trans shop to see if they can help you with it. most likely it will have to be removed
