I want to order a timing chain set. i see both a three bolt and a single bolt cam pulley listed for the 3800 motor. how do i know which one i need?

The only way to be 100% certain on which you need, you will want to pull the front timing cover/ water pump off to visually inspect it. It will either have a counterbored bolt hole or three bolts.
