I recently replaced the air filter and after running just 5,000kms, the air filter has visible oily grime underneath. Is this normal or should i be concerned?

Hi,

I don't feel it is normal. In this case, I suspect the engine's crankcase pressure is higher than normal and causes an oil mist to make its way through the PCV (positive crankcase ventilation system) into the air filter.

I attached a pic below showing the location. There is a hose between the PCV valve and the air intake. Disconnect it and inspect it for excessive oil in the hose. If there is, I would suggest making a record of it with a dealer. It could indicate an issue with the piston rings.

Let me know what you find or if you have questions.

Take care,

Joe
