Oil Temperature Question/Issue?

I own two 2014 dodge Durango, both with the 3.6 L. I just replaced the engine in one of them about 6 months ago and have noticed that my oil temperature on the replaced engine runs about 40-50 degrees hotter (200-210) than my other (160-170). No one has been able to explain to me why.

Mike, you got my curiosity up. I have a 2013 with 130,000 there was nothing listed in the manuals for a "safe range", so I took mine for a ride. LOL I drove just under 9 miles and the temperature was at 190F. I've had 0 issues with this vehicle, so I would say that is normal..

What I can tell you is there are various things that can cause the difference. For example, the oil cooler performance (under the intake) can cause a difference. Also, things like oil viscosity, oil filter brand, engine cooling system performance, and so on can all play a role in this type of variance.

Also, we need to consider the accuracy of the oil temperature sensors or gauges in each vehicle. Variations in sensor calibration or gauge accuracy can lead to apparent differences in oil temperature readings.

Also, the vehicle is designed to identify concerns as far as oil temperature issues, so if nothing indicates an issue, you must be within the manufacturer's specifications.
