Oil pump replacement

2003 and 2006 Town Cars, 135,000, 110,000 mileage. Both running well at this time.
Is it worthwhile to replace original oil pump with heavy duty Melling or other quality after market oil pump? Heard that rumor years ago. I ask because 1997 town car with 135,000 miles, with regularly changed oil, new and clean at time it threw a rod and shut down? Thanks in advance. Mike

It is not worth it if there are no signs of issues with the oil pressure. An oil pump is meant to last the life of the engine. This means it has no regular maintenance.

If the oil pressure is okay on these vehicles, then in my mind it is a waste of money and effort to just replace it as a preventative measure. I would suggest just keeping an eye on the oil pressure and when it starts running low or every drops to 0, this is the time to start looking at replacing it. Clearly if it drops to 0 then it is an immediate need.
