I changed the valve cover gasket and when I did there was black stuff all over the inside of the cover and on the rocker arms. So I cleaned it with carburetor cleaner and a wire brush. Now that I go to start the car I hear the motor does not sound right and I am get an oil light on the dash. Do you have any suggestion on what to do? I am thinking there is a clog in the oil system due to all the black stuff I brushed off.

Good morning,

Yes, I agree. When you removed the sludge, it went to the oil pan and it sounds like it has clogged the pick up screen in the oil pan.

I would remove the oil pan and clean it all out of the sludge and add new oil and filter.
