On start up vehicle has to idle for ten minutes to gain oil pressure and can hear a knock every once in a while while idle. If I do not let it idle truck will bog down and almost shut off when hitting gas pedal. Once oil pressure builds up truck runs fine. What would cause this problem?

Good morning,

It sounds like the lifter are going down and need to pump up.

I would address the issue. you need to do a manual test on the pressure to start. There are several possibilities for this.

1. Bad oil pump.

2. Sludge in the oil pan.

3. Pick up screen blocked with debris.

4. Worn main and rod bearings.

All these need to be checked to find the issue. When you let it run with the noise until it goes away, you are doing more damage to the engine doing this.

Well it is not a knock that happens a lot it might be like once every two or three minutes. If that. I just I am not mechanical inclined and I bought this 1995 Ford Bronco sport Eddie Bauer to learn, I hate not knowing things. But I will start on the things you have said.
