When the engine is on the oil pressure gauge goes all the way to 80PSI, while driving it goes further past the last mark which is 80. I'm not sure if this is an issue with the oil pump, oil pressure switch, or the gauge itself. Where should I begin in diagnosing this issue?

Good morning,

The most common cause is the sender unit.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/high-oil-pressure

It is on the housing at the top of the oil filter. I attached a picture for you.

You can get the sensor at any parts store.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hello, thanks for your help, I have replaced the Oil sending unit, there seems to be a small change in the gauge, but it still reads at or over 80 while driving. When the vehicle is off the gauge rests at 40.

Then I would test the pressure manually. You remove the sender and install the gauge.

You can rent the tester at a parts store.
