About a day ago I noticed there was no oil showing on the stick so I put oil in it and the next day while I was driving it I started to hear a tapping ticking sound. And when I check the stick it shows up dirty oil or just no oil. What could be the problem?

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros.

After refilling the oil, did it drop to a point that it was not on the stick within a day? As far as dirty oil, it should be changed according to the manufacture's recommendations. If the inside of the engine is already dirty from not servicing it, new oil can look very dirty within a few minutes of running the engine. Today's oils have a detergent in them to clean. If the engine is dirty, the oil gets dirty very quickly.

Now, if you lost that much oil in a day and see no leaks, then it could be getting burned. Pay attention to the exhaust. Blue smoke indicates oil burning. Take a look through this link.

Next, check the engine coolant to make sure oil isn't mixing in to the coolant.

Let me know what you find or if you have other questions.

Joe
