Oil light on but oil is full

My oil light has came on, after checking the oil to realize it is full. I cannot figure out what it could be. the previous owner to the car has had to replace the oil pressure sensor in it twice. I am thinking it might be the cause, but one thing that makes me doubtful is that a few weeks ago while driving I realized my oil cap was not on tight enough and oil had spewed out, leaving little to no oil in it. after filling it back up it has been running fine since so no immediate problems came from it. I am scared to think it could have caused damage and it is just arising now. could this be a cause of the light?

I looked up your car and the engine size did not work out while trying find your oil pressure sensor/sender. Kind of does not matter.

If the sender has been an issue in the past, it might be now too!

Using a different brand or getting one from the dealership (if it were not one of the previous problem children) Anyway, a different brand than in there now.

I prefer a gauge (mechanical type even better) over a light.

With your issue(s) shutting the engine down immediately is wise if you suspect an oil problem.

If you heard any abnormal noises or knocking with the light, this may be a real pressure crisis and not just a sensor failure. (no oil, bad oil pump, etc.)

Your owner's manual usually tells you to check your coolant and oil levels weekly, just in case there is a sudden problem during that long time period. Pilots do this before any trip, might be several times in one day (wonder why?)
