Hi,

Yes, that is normal. Once the engine starts, oil pressure is built, and the light should turn off. Let me know if that is what is happening.

Take care,

Joe

I am not sure what you are asking here. Does the car not start? If so, can you hear the fuel pump come on in the tank for about 5 seconds when you turn the key on without cranking the engine over?

This guide can help:

If you use starter fluid will the engine run? Also when you crank the engine over does it sounds normal, if you take a short video of the engine cranking over I can tell if it is hurt or not. You can upload the video with your response.

If my Catalytic Converter fails on me can that eventually clog with material, especially with higher mileage vehicle? Also, can it turn into a no start? Thanks! Glenn

Yes, that is possible, if the catalytic falls apart it can clog the outlet pipe not allowing the engine to start, you can disconnect the head pipe to see if the engine starts to confirm the failure. To be sure this guide can help you tell for sure if the cat is clogged.

Hello, yes it should move a little bit, engine cranking speed is not as high as the idle speed, but it should jump a little. And that signal does come from the crankshaft position sensor. One other thing, if you're dealing with a crank no start, you should also watch for the check engine light, it should come on during the first Key On and go off when the engine starts. This indicates that the engine computer has powered up. If the crank sensor is faulty, you will also be missing ignition spark and most likely fuel injector pulse. Do you need the location of the crank sensor for your vehicle?
Here are the locations and diagrams for the crank sensor, it's best to check it for a 12-volt power feed and ground before replacing the sensor. Since this sensor grounds through the engine computer, you can check for power and ground with a basic multimeter set on a 20VDC setting, unplug the sensor and check across the White wire and the blue wire with the key "on". Reading 12-volts will verify power and ground with that one test.

Glenn,

I noticed you were working with Ken. Also, you indicated a no-start with starting fluid. By chance, have you checked for spark at the plugs?

Let me know.
