Are some oil filters better than other oil filters?

I was wondering if some oil filters can be bad for your car because they actually filter too good. I have noticed some engine change in the mornings when I first crank it. The car belonged to my dad and has been serviced religiously. Oil changed every 5-6000 miles.

Hi,

There are differences. However, what is happening that makes you think there could be an issue?

I have seen inexpensive filters cause the oil pressure light to turn on. Also, some don't have an antiflow back valve which allows the oil to drain out leading to some engine noise at start-up. Also, what oil viscosity are you using? It should have a 5w30 dexos1 licensed product.

What I suggest is this. Use an AC Delco filter and confirm the correct oil viscosity is being used. I attached the directions below for doing the job yourself.

Let me know if this helps or if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe
