I took my vehicle to Midas for an oil change. They call me to pick it up. When i got there i paid for the oil change then they told me the car has to stay overnight because there's a major oil leak from my oil coolant housing and they need to replace it and 2 hoses before i can drive it. Cost at $3,000.00.

I'm going today to look at it and see if I'm able to drive it home or will i have to tow it. I told Midas I'd have it fixed by someone else. My question is, how do i know I'm buying the right parts? So, i can gauge costs and is this common? Will i be able to drive it if the leak isn't too bad? Please help!

Hi,

Question. Is this a 2.0L Turbo diesel or is it a gas engine? Let me know that.

Next, I attached a pic below from the 2T gas engine showing the filter housing and cooler. I need to know where the leak is coming from. Did they indicate which part? If it was the oil cooler, it is a 4-hour job and a 300.00 OEM part. So, 3,000 dollars seems a bit much.

Let me know.

Take care,

joe

Yes, it is a turbo diesel engine. They stated oil coolant housing is cracked. I had the vehicle towed to me yesterday. When i talked to them they said if i turned the engine over it would spew oil everywhere. When it got to my home i checked the dipstick and the oil level was too high.

Thanks for the help!!

Could you take a couple of pictures of the leak? Also, have you tried cranking the engine to see the oil leaks? I'm trying to determine why it didn't leak when it went in and now does.

Let me know.
