My husband damaged the under-body of his vehicle in a minor accident. The mechanic 'sorted' it but when he let the car idle the oil was pumping out of the dipstick. He said we need a new engine. Any ideas?

check for a bad oil pan as well it may have crushed oil pump pickup and oil is not going through engine. if it is making loud noises and clacking then mechanic is correct. we do not have that model Volkswagen in US so no information on it.
