Got a low oil light today as well as a ticking noise. The noise was worse during acceleration and persisted after I got an oil change today. I was told that the motor is essentially worn out because it had been so long since the oil change.

Hello, it sounds like they put the wrong oil in the engine, did you take it to a dealership or independent garage? There are some Technical Service Bulletins on oil consumption and leakage. Has it been a long time since it was changed and if the oil light was not on before the oil change, I think they did something wrong? It's very important to have the correct type of oil in the engine, on your receipt from the shop it should say what type of oil they put in. It should be 5w-20 or 0w-20.
You probably don't want to drive it right now, it will only cause more damage if the incorrect oil is in the engine.
