What is the tan cylinder on the side of the engine that says oil only?

Nope. Its located in the front drivers side by the air filter aprox. 5 in long 4 in wide to the right of the oil filter.

If you can't take a picture, I can't tell you what it is. We can't memorize the underhood layout of 20 different model years of 50 different manufacturers.

Make sure you don't add just any kind of oil to that. It requires very special fluid.

Ok ty so when I bought the car the guy said he put the tranny fluid into it and I knew that that wasnt right due to the fact bmw uses a sealed tranny system so ya how do I drain it?

It depends if the car has a hydraulic leveling system which would share that reservoir, not likely. The systems with just power steering can use ATF which is red but it cannot be mixed with CHF11 which is green. If the car has been driven since it would have mixed all through the system so flushing it out would not be easy. It needs to be drawn out of the reservoir, refilled and circulated and then repeated several times.
