Hello, yesterday, I changed my oil and forgot to put the oil cap on. Well, I drove maybe two miles and the car stopped, smoked for a bit, but then would not go into any gear, pretty much stayed in park.

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros.com.

First, refill the oil that was lost. Then I would suggest getting an engine degreaser and cleaning up the oil that was lost. That will help stop the smoking. Now, as far as the transmission, I honestly cannot see how the two can be related. I have a question. Is the check engine light staying on when the engine runs? If it is, you need to scan the computer to determine trouble codes which will most likely indicate where the problem is coming from. Here is a quick video showing how a scanner is used:

I realize most people do not own a scanner. However, often times parts stores will lend you one or rent one to you. Since the car will not move, we need to determine what codes are stored.

Do this and let me know what you find.

Take care,
Joe
