Oil brand recommendation?

Hi,

The preferred oil weight is 5w20. However, 5w30 is fine and if you are in a warm climate where the temperature doesn't go below 0 degrees F, you can even use 10w30.

I attached oil type information below specific to this vehicle. Take a look through it and let me know if you have questions.

Also, if you purchased Amsoil, that certainly is one of the best. I would recommend if you can afford it, use it. LOL

I wanted to use 5w30 but the whole “if you use a higher viscosity then your engine has to work harder and then parts wear out faster thing kind of pushed me back to doing another round of 5w20 for my last oil change. Like will it still flow through and lubricate all of the parts effortlessly still??Maybe I over think it.
Amsoil - Yeah, I bought a gallon jug of 5w20 for like $60.
I also have Motul x clean plus in 5w30.

Yeah, I ordered a gallon jug of Amsoil for like $60 plus since I spent a certain amount they give you a telescoping wand.

I knew Amsoil was one of the more quality options. But didn’t know Amsoil was that good lol I also have Motul X clean plus 5w30 sitting on a shelf in my garage . Problem with motul is that they don’t make enough oil.

Amsoil seems to be only about $20 more per gallon jug than the main brands you can find in store. Is it worth it though? Price doesn’t matter I just want quality, lol.

Oh yes, Amsoil is one of the best brands of oil you can get.

Do you know why? I hope the advertisement is true that it retains its lubricity well and has more film strength than the others and has some good cleaning power. I got the 5w20 though. I wanted the 5w30 but I’m not sure my engine needs 5w30 right now as winter is coming up. Amsoil 5w20 is not too thin to where it will lose its strength like many thin oils do will it?

Yes, it is better. It maintains viscosity up to 50% better than other brands. Also, it is designed to neutralize harmful acids that lead to engine deposits. I know most people who build high-performance engines prefer it also because of how well it holds up to heat.

As far as the weight is concerned, go with what the manufacturer recommends. In this case, 5w20 is your best choice.

How long until an oil change is needed or before it starts losing its viscosity?

Can you please tell me what this cold start only noise is? It’s very brief, you may need to rewind it from time to time. It sounds like some kind of a belt friction noise.

Here is another shorter video dialing in on the exact moment the noise is heard. It sounds like a belt or something. It seems to be getting worse maybe I’ll have a better video with a more intense noise.

You are very welcome regarding the oil. Since this will be synthetic oil and Amsoil, I feel comfortable saying every 5,000 miles.

As far as the noise, make sure the AC and Defroster are off and see if the sound is gone. It sounds like the A/C compressor engaging.

So, I ordered Amsoil 5w20 but I'm going to use the OEM oil filter because I heard OEM filters are best to use as they are designed to be the most effective at lubricating your engine is this true?

And as for the noise issue, thanks, I’ll keep that in mind. As for the A/C and defroster i always turn that off before I turn off my car though. When I run the A/C or defroster, I don’t hear any noises whatsoever. You sure it’s nothing belt or pulley related?

The sound only happens briefly on cold starts after the car has been sitting about 10-12 hours and the AC/defroster are always off before I turn off my car, so they are already off on start up the next time around.

Hi,

I believe the sound is when the compressor first engages and places a heavy load on the system (belt).

Have a helper start the engine for you and see if that is where the noise comes from.

Thank you I will attempt it tonight after letting the car sit the whole day while I’m at work. I plan on bringing it to the dealership on Monday because after watching several YouTube videos of similar sounds Others were saying it could be a VVT rattle or a tensioner problem? No way to know for sure and I know it’s hard to diagnose online thanks for all of the help you have provided!
