My car burns oil, should I add a thicker oil?

Using a thicker oil in a car that's burning oil is a commonly suggested remedy. Have you changed out the PCV valve because when the valve sticks open it can cause the engine to burn oil, here is the location so you can check it out. Check out the images (below). Please let us know what happens.

yes. I changed the PCV valve from the dealer. no improvement.

You might want to try a bottle of Lucas oil stabilizer and of course a thicker oil.

So, can I put 5W40 instead of 5W30? However, 5w40 comes only synthetic. There is no synthetic blend. Is it okay to put synthetic? What do you recommend?

synthetic oil tends to burn through engine a little more rapidly. I would try 10/40 racing engine oil. This oil tends to stay in engines longer.

Sorry I forgot to ask. My car has a VVTI engine. is it safe to use thicker oil on these engines?

At 228,000 the engine tolerances are extended so it should be okay.
