As for what oil to use, there is actually quite a bit of literature put out by BMW. Basically, it depends on the weather where you are. Synthetic 5W-40 should fit the bill. I am including all of the pertinent literature in the images below.

Thank you. I just hope I did not get into something that I cannot afford. I live in Clovis New Mexico I should have studied the car a little more. Bought it used looked like it was in good condition but I do not know anything about the car and maintenance on it.Thank you again.
