Can I use Slick 50 because of the high mileage?

Can I use synthetic oil?

Welcome to 2CarPros.

Slick 50 is something I haven't heard in years. Can you use it, sure, but that won't eliminate an oil consumption issue. As far as a full synthetic, often times that can actually cause more of a problems due the the molecular structure of the product.

Can you tell me exactly what is happening? Is there a leak? Do you see blue smoke from the exhaust? How many miles are driven before the engine uses a quart of oil?

Let me know.

Take care.

No, I am not experiencing any problems. I just acquired the vehicle and I want to prevent or avoid any problems, so I wanted to ensure I'm using the right products.

Welcome back:

I understand. The most important thing you can do to extend the engine's life is to make sure you follow the manufacturer's maintenance schedule. Also, select the oil's viscosity based on ambient temperatures and how the vehicle will be used. If you look in the owner's manual, it will guide you to what is recommended. Also, always use a quality oil filter.

Take care,
Joe
