Which vehicle is better for off road use

Hi there, I am wondering which is a better off road vehicle between the Rav4 vs Honda CRV? Both first gen or second gen (1999-2004). Which one would be more suited from the two brands? And which gen is best? I know that they are not made for that purpose, but which one is better suited for it? Thanks my car has a manual transmission.

Well if I had to choose I would probably go with the Rav4 second gen. Neither one is really an off road rig, but the Rav4 has a bit better ground clearance and is a bit lighter.

But if I was actually looking for a small off road rig I would try to find a Suzuki Samurai/Jimmy or Geo Tracker.
