I just changed the fuse 27 on my vehicle on the driver side fuse box. The odometer stays on when I remove the key and it used to not do this. I am worried my battery may drain quicker over time. How can I correct this issue?

This sounds like the GEM is going out which is common. Here is the location of the unit so you can replace it or have it done. Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.
