obd 2 port activates the scanner and does the scan but comes up with an error message?

I am not able to get a reading off of the obd 2 port. it activates the scanner and does the scan but comes up with a error message which I think it isn't making a connection when plugged in.

The first thing you want to do is make sure the scanner reads in another car to confirm the scanner operation. If so, then let's look at the fuse (stop lamp and NGI1 fuse in the interior fuse panel.
