OBD code reader PO3O4-cylinder 4 misfire

(1997 mercury cougar 4.6L) Service engine soon light went on recently(again) read the code with an OBD code reader I bought. What does this mean, im also wondering what price range I may be looking at to correct the problem (guesstimate). Curious cuz I need to know if I have enough saved up to deal with the problem. Thankz.

That's one of the few codes that means just what it says. Cylinder four is misfiring at times. It could be as simple as a fouled spark plug or bad spark plug wire. The most serious cause would be compression-related like a burned valve or worn camshaft lobe. A fuel injector could be plugged too but that is not real common.
