Hello, I am Danny.
It is supposed to be located under the ashtray. If it has been broken off look to see if it has been tucked away under the dash. If you have codes stored we will be happy to help diagnose. I have attached the OBD 1 how to test GM codes tutorial. Hope this helps and thanks for using 2CarPros.

I tore the dash apart, there is no OBD plug. Are you sure it is supposed to have one if so now what do I do?

Hello again
Yes, It has one. You might want to check under the dash to see if the plug end broke from its mount and was just stuffed under the dash somewhere.I will look for a picture in the meantime. Hope this helps and thanks again for using 2CarPros.

Hello again.
You might want to see if they stuck it up somewhere in the middle of the dash?

I have taken the dash apart nothing even resembles one except for the pictures I posted. This is a 1983 GMC Tahoe pick up with a 2.8 liter v6 manual transmission two wheel drive.

Mine is a 1983 GMC Tahoe pick up with a 2.8. I had a retired GM mechanic tell me that they did not have them in 1983 but you say they do. Who is correct?

I can only go with what the manual tells me. Can you confirm no wires have been cut out and the ALDL removed?
