First off I know the very basics about cars and that's it so please deal with me. I need an inspection done. My check engine light was on. I went to a friend who was able to turn it off. He told me to drive at least 40 miles before getting the inspection done. I drove almost 50. I failed. The receipt says: Readiness fail; Monitor catalyst not ready; Monitor evap not ready; Monitor O2 not ready. From what I'm reading online if I'm correct the monitors in my car weren't reading the information because of what my friend did and that's why it didn't pass. Not necessarily because I need to get anything fixed on my car to pass. But if that's correct why did the mechanic tell me that if it wasn't for the O2 I would have passed and that what I need to do is put crc guaranteed to pass in my fuel tank with a full tank, drive it till almost empty then go back and it will pass? I'm so confused over this. Is this something that will make that monitor go on?

WHY DON'T YOU HAVE THE CODES SCANNED, MOST POPULAR AUTO PARTS STORES WILL DO THIS FOR FREE!

WRITE DOWN THE EXACT CODE NUMBER(S) THERE MAY BE SEVERAL

RETURN HERE WITH THE NUMBERS (NOT WHAT THEY SAY THEY MEAN)

MAYBE WE CAN COME UP WITH A SOLUTION THAT ACTUALLY FIXES THE ISSUE, THE LIGHT WILL THEN STAY OFF AND YOUR PROBLEMS SOLVED WITHOUT ATTEMPTING TO CHEAT!

THE LIGHT IS AN INDICATION THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM OF SOME SORT! WE JUST GOTTA KNOW WHAT YOUR COMPUTER IS TELLING YOU.

THE MEDIC

The light is still off. My friend read me what it said (I don't remember) but said that whatever it said may be due simply from running the car while pumping gas. The one thing I'm confused about is if I failed because the monitors weren't on yet then why did the guy who tested my car tell me to put that stuff in my gas tank?

Cause people like to sell stuff to make money on it. Scan for codes, check fuel pressure with a gauge first.

OK the check engine light is still off. I went to an auto parts store to get any codes that come up. 2 did. Po440 evap control system large leak (0.080") detected and po441 evap system incorrect purge flow detected. Now besides what they mean I have a couple of questions. First, because codes showed up does that mean the monitors are ready now or not necessarily? IF it means they are ready do u think I would pass? I noticed both codes say evap and the mechanic who did my inspection told me that if the o2 monitor was ready and nothing wrong I would have passed. Even with the other 2 monitors not ready

You may not pass with those code but only thing to do is try it. Those codes you have have to be smoke tested to find the leak
