When engine is cold first gear has tons of power.

As soon as the engine heats up there is no power.

Push the gas pedal down and wait for the car to move.

Does it act the same way through all the gears or just in first gear? If in all gears it is more likely engine related, if only in the one gear it is more probably the transmission. Either way a scan with a factory scan tool would be the first step. There are things that can go wrong in the transmission or engine that may not set any trouble codes. Plus with it you can watch the transmission as it operates to see if it has a problem. It could be a solenoid that is sticking or a clutch that is not applying once the fluid warms up.

Things you could check are the transmission fluid level and color. You want it full and red or pinkish. Dark brown or black means there are internal problems.
