So, about a year ago, truck started making a bad timing chain noise, I parked it, took everything off, sure enough my chain guide on the right side broke, so I replaced cam phasers, chains, tensioners, crankshaft sprocket and gaskets. It drove ok for a while then it started making the noise again one day on my way to work so I tried easing it very slow (maybe 5mph) just trying to get it to my job, well about a half mile from my job, it shut off. Called my brother, who’s a mechanic, he came, put his scanner tool on it and it showed the whole right (passenger) side had no compression. So we towed it home, pulled everything off again and once again the passenger side guide was broke and my cam phaser, the three little pins in the middle broke, so I ordered and new one from Ford, took the old phaser off and seen that the roller pin on the back of the cam phaser sheared the heck out of the slot on my cam shaft. So, I took my camshaft off. Well, I didn’t set the timing before I too the old phaser off and the camshaft... What do I do? Or how do I know what position to lay the new camshaft in when I install the new one?

Yep, this needs to be done correctly, or you will bend valves. When these timing components go bad it is best to replace all of them. In this video we do the job in the shop so you can see what you need to do to fix it, but since you have no compression, and the engine has been turned over the damage might be already done. When it is apart do a cylinder leak down test to see if the cylinder heads need to come off.

Thanks Mr Ken! That video showed me everything I need! Unfortunately I’ve got to saveup the money right now for another camshaft, hopefully it wont take me long, Ive been having to drive my atv back and forth to work everyday since my truck broke down. I’m the only one working since my parents passed away so all money is going to bills right now. But as soon as I get the cam shaft I will record a video of me putting it all back together and send it to ya! I spend about 2 days just watching multiple videos of y’all’s and you really don’t know how much you guys help people that get stuck not know what to do! Appreciate yall! Much love!

Mr Ken! I’m almost done with this timing and cam job! I’m installing the new roller followers today! Sorry it’s taken such a long time to respond, I’ve had to save a little money each week to buy a few parts at a time! Only thing left to buy is oil filter and oil! I am so grateful for your videos! I wouldn’t have been able to complete this job without them! You don’t know how much you’ve helped people like me that’s in a tough cookie and trying to fix things themselves! You truly are a blessing when it comes to mechanics lol!
I attached a few photos from this journey, the first one was my passenger side cam shaft, not sure why or how it happened yea just my luck lol. The next 2 are my amazing shade tree mechanic paint job on my front cover and valve covers! I loved the ford blue ones you had butttt my favorite colors are black and lime green so I figured why not give it a shot! The fourth photo is the night I got my chains, guides and tensioner on and timed. The fifth is my nicely painted front cover finally installed and the last photo is what was left of my old phaser, as you can see, that dial pin that supposed to be there was no longer there. And the three pins that held the front part, they were sheared
off also! But like I said before, none of this was possible without your videos! I will be back soon with an update and when I crank it, you’ll see a video! Can’t wait! Thanks Mr Ken for all your help!

Yep, it looks like the camshaft actuator was loose and that is why it wallered out the pin holes. Did you replace the damaged camshaft? I like the colors BTW and thanks for those kinds words, we try to help ;)
