I bought the car on October 4th it worked for about 5 days then it just shut off on me when I got to work after a 8 mile drive 11:00 pm. It gave a code p0402 6 hours later before I got off it started no problem. Next day it would not start again later that day it started it works for a few hours then it shuts off again. 20 minutes later it starts again no power lost. Now it cranks but will not start at all. It has been 3 days. Thanks any help will be greatly appreciated.

That code correlates with a P1401, EGR circuit. Basically, too much power is being sent to the EGR (greater than 4.5v.)

Do me a favor, disconnect the EGR sensor connection and see what happens.

If you look at picture 1, I copied possible causes. I need to know a couple things before I proceed. First, I need the 8th digit of the VIN to confirm which engine you have. There are single overhead cams and dual overhead cams. If you look at pictures 2 and 3, they show the connector for the sensor. Which engine you have will determine what pin to test and what it should be.

If you disconnect the sensor, it should drop voltage and allow the engine to start, but it may not run too good. So, let me know what happens. Also, confirm the vacuum lines going to it are not damaged. That can cause issues as well.

The sensor should be on the passenger side under the hood. I attached pictures of it and location, picture 4 and 5.

Let me know.
