Car started but was smoking. Replaced valve cover (had cracks), then started, no more smoking, but thermostat housing was leaking. So replaced that, now it will not start and coolant reservoir smells gassy and a slight hum.

Hi and thanks for using 2carpros.com

Is the engine trying to start? Thermostat replacement shouldn't have caused a no start issue. Take a look through this link. It discusses reasons why an engine won't start and possible solutions.

Also, since you are getting a fuel smell in the coolant, you may want to check for a head gasket issue. Here is a link that describes how that is checked.

After you go through these links, let me know if you still need help or have questions.

Take care,
Joe
