not shifting to next gear

I will start the car and put it in drive. While in drive I will floor the gas pedal but it will not shift to next automatic gear, but the rpm is at 5000.

It sounds like you have a shaft speed sensor that has gone out but to be sure we need to read the codes, here is a guide to help us get started so we can get the problem fixed.
