Hi,
First, is the check engine light staying on when the vehicle is running? If it is, you really should have the computer scanned to identify diagnostic trouble codes. Here is a quick video showing how it is done:

I realize most people don't own a scanner, but often times a parts store will do it free of charge or lend/rent a scanner.
Next, make sure no transmission cooling lines were damaged, leaking, or pinched shut.
If that all looks good, check the shift linkage on the side of the transmission to see if there is any evidence of damage to that component. I attached a picture of what you are looking for.
