Not going past 20 high RPMs slow going, not accelerating properly?

Runs well but when I punch on the gas pedal slow going really slow.

That sounds like the transmission is slipping. If it's a manual that is indicative of a worn or failing clutch disc. In an automatic it generally means that it has an internal problem, either a pressure loss in the fluid or the clutch plates in its geartrain are worn or glazed.
So which transmission type do you have?
