non start and ignition switch problem

the boxster pre 2004 suffers with a problem ignition switch . The problem I have is the car will not start and the ignition key barrel is not sitting in its required position. I have been unable to lock the car remotely ,which I understand is due to the ignition switch. I jumped started the car recently as it had been left for 3-4 days and it started without no hesitation, went back the next day and the battery was completely flat only flashing some dash lights. I put a trickle feed on the car for 3 hours and still nothing. Is this a cause of the ignition switch staying live?. Your input would be very much appreciated

It sounds like the battery is bad because it cant hold a charge, also the ignition switch should be replaced, there are several contacts which are internal that must operate correctly.

Do a draw check on the battery first,
