What are reasons for whistling noise from the alternator?

a bearing going bad will do that Ican't think of much else unless the fan at front is moving a ton of air.

Many thanks for your prompt response. I have already tightened the belt. Is the solution to replace the alternator?

but disconnect the belt and see if noise stops
