When i turn steering wheel left or right i get a springing sound followed by a cracking noise.

Reach over the top of a front tire, lightly wrap your fingertips around part of the coil spring, then have a helper slowly turn the steering wheel. You should feel the spring rotate smoothly with the wheel and tire. If it winds up, then snaps free and turns, the upper strut mount is binding and should be replaced.
