No throttle while in gear

My car was driving fine until it turned cold and i had problems with my battery one night and had to have a boost. After boosting the car it barely made it home. The next day it would not start and we replaced the battery. After replacing the battery, the car would start fine but when it was put in gear it would not throttle or go in either gear.
